Chapter 54: Prostate Operation (part 2)

Shriji in the Spiritual Realm

Shriji had pain as merely a couple of days had passed since the second operation had been done. He was being given antibiotics and sleeping pills because of which he was intoxicated all the time. Even in this condition he would remain in a bhava stithi [1], a state of awakened spiritual consciousness. Some indistinct words would pour out of his mouth and raising his fingers he would make some sort of signs which indicated that he was roaming in the realm of spiritual experience.

Indian Army Attacks the Golden Temple

One night at about 11:15 PM he began telling Ghanshyamji in clear e words,Look! The Indian Army has attacked the Golden Temple and a fierce battle is raging. The walls of the Gurudwara have been demolished and our Army is emerging victorious.

Hearing this Ghanshyamji smiled and said softly,Maharajji, go to sleep! You are seeing things in a distorted manner because of taking antibiotics.

Shriji kept quiet.

At 6 o' clock in the morning, senior Dalmiaji got a green coconut and Gangajal[2] for Shriji, as was his daily regime. Shriji narrated to him too what he had seen during the night. Hearing him out Dalmiaji was dumbfounded.

His eyes filled with tears and he said,The vision you have seen is absolutely true. I had switched on my radio and tuned into BBC London at night. As you have said, precisely at 11:15 at night the Indian Army assaulted the Golden Temple and entering it killed Bhinderwala and his followers. After fighting fiercely they took over the Swarna Mandir.

Shri  Vishnu Hari Dalmia

Shri Dalmiaji was astonished to see Shriji's antaryamitva[3] or intuitive power of farsight.

Whenever this incident was talked about in Vrindavan Shriji would jovially speak about Ghanshyamji's remark,You are having distorted visions due to the effect of antibiotics. Kindly go to sleep,

Everyone would burst out laughing when he referred to this incident. So be it!

Shriji's health began to improve gradually. A few days later he was taken to walk slowly up to the gate of the hospital. A tube had been inserted so he would be wearing only a kurta . Shriji appeared cheerful even in this condition and kept joking and laughing.

Swami Shri Mahavir

Being a Jain, Doctor Sahab had put up a very big picture of Swami Shri Mahavirji[4] in the verandah of the hospital. Shriji was coming back after a walk to the gate. Lalji, Thakurji and I were holding his arm and were by his side. Shriji's caught sight of that picture.

Raising his hand and laughing Shriji remarked,Friend! We two are friends indeed, Look! You too are digambar [5] and are not wearing clothes and so am I.

All of us burst out laughing. After staying in the hospital for a month and three days, Shriji was brought to Lalji's home. Here too, the Dalmia family would come daily to see Shriji. Senior Dalmiaji would come with a bottle of oil and despite being stopped he would massage Shriji's feet with his own hands.

Moreover, devotees from Shriji's inner circle would come to look him up. Shri Deviji would not step out of Vrindavan that is why she was much worried about his health She would send someone to Delhi to get information of Shriji's condition almost every day. Once Laxminarainji and Radharamanji, who enacted the roles of Thakur and Shriji in Swami Shri Ramji's mandala, went to see Shriji. Revered Deviji's love and implicit faith in Shriji was particularly great thus she would get very worried on his becoming even slightly unwell. During the time of this operation her state was becoming like a fish out of water. It was unbearable for her to leave Vrindavan and worrying about Shriji's health and staying away from him was also not bearable. To describe this agony is beyond the capacity of one's sensibility and pen.

Shri Deviji

Shri Deviji became so restless one day that foregoing her long-observed vow of not stepping out of Vrindavan, she decided to go to Delhi and look up Shriji, and readied two persons to accompany her. Deviji woke up at 3 o' clock, early in the morning and got ready. The taxi came and stood at the gate. Before leaving she was determined to go straight to the nursing home to see Shriji without taking even water on the way and coming back to Vrindavan by the evening. When revered Deviji was about to depart some unknown power detained her. The taxi was sent back but her restlessness reached its peak, which was felt by Shriji in the hospital.

“ You should not get so agitated as it has a deep effect on my heart here. I am very weak at this point of time,” was the message he sent to Deviji.

Shri Gayaprasad Panditji

A few days later Shri Deviji went to Goverdhan with a couple of people to have darshan of Shri Gayaprasad Panditji.  Panditji would not talk to women as a rule but would address Shri Deviji  as behan or sister. Making her sit in front of him, he talked to her.  Panditji asked her about Shriji's health. He would send his own man from Goverdhan to Shri Dham Vrindavan to get news of Shriji's condition, after every three to four days.

A little later he asked all the people to move from there, merely a sevaka remained to safeguard his fixed rule.

Behan! Look! Here, I have experienced the condition you are in and which has been induced by your love for Shriji. You have got this infallible treasure. Keep it safely,he told Deviji soon after.

Shri Vrindavan

There at Delhi, Shriji's health began to improve gradually. Resting for fifteen days at Lalji's house he returned to Vrindavan.

[1]     Bhava stithi:or awakening of spiritual consciousness,a state of communion with God. It is related to the sub-conscious mind (chitta). When ones spiritual emotion is awakened, one transcends ones usual state of identification with a worldly existence. The awareness of ones own existence also reduces. Thus in a state of spiritual emotion one transcends the littleiand identifies with the bigI. Spiritual emotion gives us a spiritual experience of Bliss (Ānand).
[2]     Gangajal: holy water of river Ganga
[3]     Antaryamitva: is to enter the ectoplasmic or endoplasmic structure of others and thereby to know their pain and pleasures, their hopes, aspirations and longings and to guide them properly. It is somewhat like transmigration of the soul. Regarding this occult power, spiritual cult alone will not suffice - it requires the special grace of Parama Purusha.
[4]               Lord Mahavira: was the twenty-fourth and the last Tirthankara of the Jain religion. All Tirthankaras were born as human beings but they have attained a state of perfection or enlightenment through meditation and self realization. They are the Gods of Jains. Tirthankaras are also known as Arihants or Jinas.
[5]     Digambar: having the regions or space as clothing, naked
