Meeting Contemporary Saints

Shri Balkrishna Das ji Maharaj

All actions of siddh self-realized saints are easily accomplished for the well-being of humanity. Although Shriji was always absorbed in the madhurya bhava when the devotee relates to God as a beloved and was intoxicated by the wine of Lord Krishna's rasa,[1] he always taught members of his inner circle that association with holy persons is the basic means of sadhana. Wherever he would see the presence of saints he would go to behold them himself and inspire his intimate followers to do the same.

Many siddh saints were adorning the land of Braj during that time. Readers have already read detailed accounts of Shriji's meeting with great personages.

Venerable Hari Babaji Maharaj:

Shri Hari Baba

Shri Hari Baba was once putting up at Delhi. Shri Maharajji had a wish to see him so he took Ghanshyamji and went to Delhi. Reaching Delhi, he spent hours searching for revered Hari Baba Maharaj.

Shri Ghanshyamji suggested,Maharajji! it is quite late now and we will look for him tomorrow morning.

However, Shriji was driven by a passionate urge so he kept on looking for him. Ultimately from the records of saints and scholars kept at the Birla Mandir they came to know that revered Baba was putting up at Ma Anandamayi's ashram at Chandralok.

 Maa Anadamayi Ashram, Chandralok

Revered Shri Maharajji and Ghanshyamji reached Chandralok Ashram at around 9 PM. Shri Hari Baba was giving a spiritual discourse at that point in time.

Seeing him Shriji was extremely delighted, and carried away by prema[2] he  exulted,Just have a look at his face glowing with spiritual radiance! Our entire fatigue has been dispelled by the mere sight of him.

After satsang when the two great personages met, they held hands and kept gazing at each other for fifteen minutes without blinking an eyelid. Both of them were beside themselves with mutual affection for each other. Observing their state, Ghanshyamji touched their feet to make them regain normal consciousness.

Shri Maharajji is the incarnate form of rasa[3] . What can I say about him?” was all that Hari Baba said.

Soon after, he asked his close followers to respectfully arrange for Shriji's food and rest.

After resting for the night when Shriji went to Hari Baba to take leave, he said,I am also reaching Vrindavan in a short while.

A few years later when Shri Hari Babaji Maharaj was unwell Shriji came to know from the intuitive intelligence of his heart that Shri Baba would not remain alive for many days and was nearing his end. He went to Hoshiarpur all alone to see him as Ghanshyamji had gone to Gorakhpur for Radhashtami. Shri Maharajji saw Shri Hari Baba embracing everyone in a frenzy of love be it men, women, children or old people so he became all the more convinced that it was a prologue to Shri Hari Baba's leaving this mundane world. Staying there for a day, Shriji returned to Shri Dham.

Revered Maa Anandamayi:

Shri Anadamayi Maa

Shri Ananadamayi Maa was once staying at her ashram in Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges. Shriji came to know of this when he was returning from Gorakhpur so he went to her ashram to meet her.

As soon as Shriji entered venerable Maa's chamber she said in an ecstatic tone,Today the holy waters of the Ganges have walked  and come to give 'darshan!

Maa Anandamayi Ashram, Vrindavan

At another time Shriji went to her ashram situated in Vrindavan to meet Maa Anandamayi. Ghanshyamji said,Shri Maharaji wants to hear something from your sacred mouth today.

Shrimati Vijayaraje Sindhia was present with Maa Anandamayi at that time.

When she was about to say something Shri Maa intervened and said,In fact, I am the one who will be narrating something to Shri Maharajji today. Soon after, she lovingly gave the entire description of how the vigraha or idol of 'Chhaliya Thakur' (Prankster Lord Krishna) was installed in the Ashram Mandir.

I am the musical instrument of Baba (revered Maharajji), and he has played on me himself,” she exulted in the end.

Highly Revered Shri Bhaktamaliji Maharaj:

Shri Bhaktamali ji Maharaj

Dyed in the colour of the Supreme Lover Krishna and His beloved Shri Radha , revered Shri Bhaktamaliji (Shri Jagannath Dasji Maharaj) was a very simple siddh saint in his own unique way. He shared a very sweet relationship with Shri Maharajji.

Whenever he would spot Shriji at whichever place he would stand up and rave in an ecstatic voice,Indeed, Shri Maharaji belongs to the parikar of Priyalal's (Lord Krishna's) sakhis[4], for whom Shri Priyaji ( Shri Radha) has said:

sakhi totein nimish na bichhuroun, mohi preetam ki aan  |
sakhi to bin sarai na kaj.

I swear by Priyatam[5], that I cannot separate from you, even for a moment . Nothing can be accomplished without you dear sakhi.

Respected Thakur Shri Omkarnathji Maharaj:

Shri Omkarnath ji Maharaj
He was an eminent saint of Bengal's naam nisht siddh saints who were dedicatedly devoted to chanting God's Name. He used to come to Dhir Samir, Vardhman Kunj etc., his own ashrams, in Vrindavan. When Revered Shri Maharajji would go to meet him he would welcome him with great respect and talk about satsang of the highest truth.

Once he was at Ma Anandamayi's Ashram when he saw Shriji from a distance. Even on being of a very frail built he tore through the crowd and reached  Shriji.

Putting a flower garland around Shriji's neck with his own hands, Shri Onkarnathji remarked,Your staying away from me is becoming the cause of painful anguish for me.

In this manner, venerable Shri Maharajji had very affectionate kinship with various types of saintly personages, right from the very beginning.
