Maharaj Shri
A strange transcendental intoxication was apparent on his face and he was in a trance like state. Besides, his eyes had turned red and were half closed. The top sheet with which he used to cover himself, fell on his feet as he got up.
Beside himself with love, he picked up the sheet in such a manner as if it was as if some extremely dear and deeply respectful object. In a fit of frenzied love, he reverentially touched it with his head. Amazed, a member of his
Top Sheet
parikar, asked him the reason for this act of his.
"What should I say? he replied in the same intoxicated state.
Everyday, for the past three months, when I lock the door and lie down on bed, my outer consciousness vanishes and one of Krishna's strange lilas begins.
Dark-hued Krishna's Lila Begins
A Palette of Colours
Then I begin flowing in this loving gush of His wherein He does my shringara and decks me. He was sitting on this very sheet and it has been touched by His lotus feet. The sheet is a witness to His having showered love on me.
Therefore I have given respect to His love by reverentially touching it with my head.
Therefore I have given respect to His love by reverentially touching it with my head.
You asked me that is why I have told you."
It is unbelievable that the above-mentioned lila went on in this mundane world for three months at a stretch.
However, it lasted for a short period in Krishna's realm of divine play.
Lord Krishna's Realm
Hearing this charming episode one is reminded of a pada composed by Shri Biharin Das ji
aise sukh paiyat sakhi sukh dekhat |
atur mukh nirkhat chanchal kar banat na chitra ur lekhat ||
priya hansti sakuchat manmohan chhincchin prati rati rashin visekhat |
shri biharinidasi lochan lalitadik lagat na nain nimekhat ||
Shri Raghunath Bhatta Goswami's desire is:
kanak-rachit-kumbh-dvandva-vinyas-bhangi
ruchi-har-kuch yumm saubhgochhunamasyah
supalak-math gandhaishichatritam kartumichhoh
giridhrit ih haste hant dasye kadahham ||
which means:
Krishna Paints Musky Spots on Beloved Radha
'When, oh when will I be able to give a small fragrant bowl in the hands of Girdhar so that He can paint musky spots on the pitcher-like breasts of Beloved Radha, which puts the beauty of golden water pots to shame.
Rasraja Krishna
The gushing tide of Mahabhava and Rasraja Krishna, the blue-hued Supreme Lover of Radha, plunged into the great ocean of shringara rasa.
1Mahabhava:Centred on the divine love of Shri Radha-Krishna the worshipper is required to assume the nature, nuances and psychological state of Radha in her loving devotion to Krishna, this state is called Radha bhava ormahabhava (raganuraga bhakti)
2Rasa:Krishna is full in himself, yet he is full of love, and love is never satisfied with itself. To taste himself more fully he manifests as two—Radha and Krishna. The two, rasa and prema, are essentially one. Krishna is rasa and Radha is prema. One has little meaning withoutthe other. Rasa is the highest taste and prema is the means of tasting it. Krishna desires to be one with Radha, for as much as love requires two, it is all about two becoming one. Krishna must do this to preserve His original purpose of fully tasting himself. He must become onewith Radha while preserving both of their identities.
3Natwar: Supreme Dancer
4tribhang: a title of Krishna, having three angles or bends, of angular posture as Krishna depicted playing the flute, with bent legs, hips and neck.
5you are me: Shri Radha and Krishna manifest as two distinct individuals for the sake of interpersonal romantic exchange but they are in essence a single entity.
6shringara: romantic love of Shri Radha-Krishna
7essence: Love requires not only the self (Krishna) but equally the object of love (Radha) for expression
