Chapter 56: Revisiting Gorakhpur

 Shri Radhashtami

When Shriji was to go to Gorakpur on Radhashtami, as he used to every year, a big blister the size of a batasha[1] erupted under his tongue in 1985. Thus he had to go to Delhi at once for getting it tested. After a routine examination the doctor suspected it to be cancerous.

Kurukshetra

Not trusting his opinion Shriji sent a person to Kurukshetra to Guruji Shri Krishnadutt Sharma, a renowned homeopath, to get medicine for him.

This ailment is due to an increase in the sugar level,” diagnosed Shri Krishnadutt Sharma.

He was told that the sugar count had been normal in a test administered just a few days ago. The homeopathic practitioner replied that whenever the test may have been done the sugar was high as of today. Truly, Shriji's sugar level turned out to be very high. Shri Guruji gave three doses in small packets and Shriji got some relief gradually.

 Shri Radha Baba

Shri Radha Baba had been informed about Shriji's health from Dalmia House.

Shriji would mostly stop over at Lucknow while going or coming back from Gorakhpur. Raja Anand Singhji of Mankapur State and his Rani Sahiba Shrimati Veenaji were connected with Gita Vatika of Gorakhpur. Shri Veenaji was of a very religious and devout disposition. Being highly devoted to Shri Radha Baba, she even had implicit faith in Shriji. Besides, Shriji would stay over at their palatial bungalow in Lucknow for a couple of days to take rest.

 Manakpur Palace

This time Shriji went to Mankapur while going to Gorakhpur because Raja Sahab had kept the programme of 'Rasa Lila in the royal palace because of Shriji's inspiration. The rasa mandali of Swami Shri Ramji was called for. Public announcement was made in the entire state. The masses held Raja Sahab in the same high esteem as when he was ruling the state. The royal palace is very vast and is surrounded by a parapet which has a circumference of one mile. The main entrance door of the fortress is very huge and there is an enormous courtyard in front of the palace. Arrangements for enactment of the rasa lila were made in this very courtyard. People had thronged the place and were present in thousands.

Supreme Lover Krishna & Beloved Radha

Young boys who were enacting the role of Krishna, the Supreme Lover and Shri Radha the Beloved, got on to the well decorated throne placed on a broad stage. Shriji reached the site along with his followers in time. The royal family was already seated there.

The curtain was raised and the vault of the sky resounded with joyful shouts of 'jai jai'. The notes of musical instruments could be heard. Swami Shri Ramji began singing the mangalacharan [2] with his melodious voice.

Dense Clouds

Meanwhile, dense clouds overcast the entire sky, foreboding torrential rain. A few light showers of rain had already drizzled. All the people present were apprehensive as to what would happen now. Such a grand presentation of the 'Rasa Lila' was going to be enacted in Mankapur for the first time.

Shri Ghanshyamji

Shri Raja Sahab and Shri Veenaji were also worried.  Veenaji had implicit faith in Shriji. She narrated the entire situation to Ghanshyamji and asked him to request Shriji for help.

Shri Balkrishna Das ji Maharaj

Shri Maharajji was sitting in a manner which was least concerned about what would happen. Ghanshyamji went to Shriji and reported all that Veenaji had said. Shriji smiled and asked Ghanshyamji to sit with an indication of his hand. Once, he gazed intently at the sky where dense clouds had gathered. Ghanshyamji also sat down beside Shriji.

 Drizzling Showers

The 'Rasa Lila' began. Enactment of the rasa dance and music began after the arti was done. The drizzling showers stopped all of a sudden although circling clouds were looming downwards. However, the Rasa went on peacefully for three hours at a stretch. Thronging spectators began to peter out now. Wonder of wonders was that not a single drop of rain had fallen within the one mile circumference of the fort but on coming to the gate of the fort we saw that there had been such heavy rain fall outside that there was knee deep water all around.

 Rasa Bihari Krishna & Radha

The boy enacting the role of Rasa Bihari got up from the sinhasan and had just entered the shringar bhavan or dressing room when a heavy downpour began inside the fort. It would not be an exaggeration to say that great souls have unlimited powers and history bears testimony to this fact. Shri Veenaji and all   the royal associates were dumbfounded, and were busy praising the greatness of Shriji. So be it!

Gorakhpur

Stopping over at Mankapur for eight days, Shriji reached Gorakhpur by car. Shri Radha Baba was eagerly waiting for him. He was greatly delighted at Shriji's arrival and both the great souls met each other with increasing affection, as usual. A new occurrence took place that year. The tiffin [3]had reached Shri Maharajji's hut and close inmates were preparing to feed him the meal when revered Shri Baba entered with several other persons accompanying him.

Entering Shriji's room Shri Baba said,Maharaj! We want you to have your meal with us today. No one will be inside the room except Ghanshyamji and Kusum will be serving the prasad to you. You will have to accept this request of ours, for certain. I will be sitting quietly in front of you without uttering a word.

Being very bashful and modest by nature Shriji could not disregard Baba's insistence. Shri Baba sat before him and made Shriji have his meal.

I say that Shriji does not have cancer and will not even have it in the future,” he assured Ghanshyamji

 Shri Bhaiji

Shri Baba had stopped going to the utsav pandal or festival pavilion after the demise of Shri Bhaiji.

In fact, this time on the occasion of Radhashtami Shri Baba held Shriji's hand and insisted,I will go to the utsav pandal with you.

You have taken a vow of not going to the utsav pandal, his close followers reminded him.

There is no self-imposed restraint on my going with Shri Maharajji. I can to any place in Gita Vatika with him,” replied Shri Baba.

When both eminent souls attended the utsav a wonderful wave of eternal joy rippled through the ambiance.

Shri Vrindavan

Staying there for some time Shriji returned to Shri Dham after the festival got over as scheduled.

Shriji would do great deeds in a playful manner with such great ease that the person in front would not come to know how and when this miraculous task had been performed.

Shri Manohar Baba

Once Shriji had given a new lease of life to me. I had been having excruciating pain and inflammation in my throat for the past six months. Its tormenting anguish had pervaded my whole body. In fact, this ailment had begun in Barwani when the sankirtan had come to a conclusion.  I had shown myself to Dr. Anand, an E.N.T. Specialist, in Indore. He had termed the ailment as infection and given medicines for five days but it had not helped in any way.

On coming to Shri Vrindavan Dham, Dr.Sharma of Mathura had also diagnosed my illness as infection and given medicine for eight days. However, the ailment went on aggravating.

 Seva Ashram, Vrindavan

Swamiji of Seva Ashram advised me to show my throat to Tata (Cancer) Hospital, but I gave up the idea of doing so and sat back. Weakness escalated day by day, as I lost weight due to a total loss of appetite. I went on taking the homeopathic medicine of Kurukshetra's Guruji but was not getting any relief. The entire group of Venu Vinod Kunj's inmates, particularly Shri Deviji, were very worried.

Shri Deviji

She began telling Shriji,Maharajji! Will a member of the parikar, depart from our midst. He should not be leaving us, right now.

Hearing this outburst Shriji kept quiet and did not speak a word. As a matter of fact Shriji had to go to Delhi. Shri Lalita Dalmiya's car had come to take him. When Shriji started for Delhi at 3 o'clock I also sat in the same car and went up to Banke Bihari Colony to see him off. Swami Shri Ramji stopped the car on the way and insistently took Shriji to his house. Shriji sat on the bed and all of us sat down in front on him. Shri Ghanshyamji, Kusumji and Narayanji were going along with Shriji to Delhi.

Hey! I haven't seen his throat till now; let me see where it pains,Shriji suddenly exclaimed while conversing

I went up to him and holding his hand showed him all the areas where it hurt. Shriji moved his hand over my throat. His eyes appeared to be red in exactly the same manner as they used to be in his bhava stithi, a state of awakened spiritual consciousness.

Nothing! Dear, there is nothing wrong,” affirmed Shriji.

Venu Vinod Kunj

Thereafter, Shriji ate some refreshments along with his associates and left for Delhi whereas I returned to Venu Vinod Kunj. And that was it! That very evening I felt a bit hungry and ate a roti[4]. For the past several months I had given up  having  meals in the evening. From the very next day I felt quite hungry both  times and began feeling a bit active physically. The pain subsided and I became free from this ailment, gradually by degrees.

In this manner, Shriji would save his close associates from impending dangers due to his causeless compassion.
