Om Namah Shivaya

Sri Shiva Mantra


Namah Shivaya means adoration (namas) to Śiva, and is preceded by the mystical syllable "Aum".

(7 *malas on Mondays and Guru Purnima, as well as; 3 malas on other days)



Asking Shiva for the Boon of Constant Love for Lord Krishna's Feet


Doha:

dharam na artha na kaam ruchi, gati na chahaun nirvaan  |
chhin-chhin rati sri krishanpad, yah vardaan na aan  ||


I have neither any interest in righteousness, wealth or desire, nor do I want gati, the state of *nirvana.
Give me no other boon than continuous love for the lotus feet of Lord Krishna,every single moment of the day.

shailjavar bhaal lochan chandrashekar rakshamaam  |

*Chandrashekhar, Chandrashekhar,Chankrashekhar, protect me.
Chandrashekhar, consort of *Shailaja, having a *third eye on your forehead, save me.


*Mala:: a string of prayer  beads used for reciting or chanting a mantra or other
forms of sadhana, generally known as "japa or incantation.

*dharma:: the complex of religious and social obligations which a devout Hindu isrequired to fulfill

gati:: movement of the astral body after death

nirvana:: eternal bliss in union with the Ultimate Being after death

Shailaja:: a title of Paravati, daughter of the mountain

third eye: Shiva is often depicted with a third eye, with which he burned Kamdev to ashes. Therefore he is called "Tryambakam"

Chandrashekar: The epithet Chandraśekhara means Shiva bears the crescent moon on his head.  chandra = moon; śekhara = crest, crown
