Vinay Patrika: Shiv Stuti [7]

Raag Raamkali

Lord Shiva Dallying with Goddess Uma

Kas na deenpar dravhu umaabar | daarun bipati haran karunaakar ||1||

beid-puraan kahat udaar har | hamri ber kas bhayehu kripinatar ||2||

kavani bhagati keenhii gunnidhi dvij | hoi prasann deenhehu siv pad nij ||3||

jo gati agam mahaamuni gaavhin | tav pur keet patanghu paavhin ||4||

dehu kaam-ripu! Raam-charan-rati | tulsidaas prabhu! harhu bhed-mati ||5||

O Uma-Raman! ( a title of Shiva, the husband of goddess Uma or Parvati) How come you don't shower your grace on this wretched person? O treasure trove of compassion ! You are the annihilator of terrible adversities||1||

The Vedas and Puranas say that Lord Shiva is nobly generous then how have you become such a great miser regarding me?||2||

What sort of bhakti did the brahman, a treasure trove of virtues, do that being pleased with his religious devotion You gave him Your own rank of bringing about mankind's well-being||3||

The highest condition (merging of the soul with the Supreme Being) which great sages endorse is very tough to come by, can easily be attained by insects and flies in your Kashipuri (the city of Banaras) ||4||

O Kamari Shiva! (a title of Shiva, the enemy of desire, who reduced Kamdev to ashes) O Svami! (Lord) Getting rid of Tulsidas' spirit of dissension, grant him religious devotion for Lord Rama's feet ||5||

Vinay Patrika: Shiv Stuti [5]

Raag Dhanaashri

Baavro raavro naah bhavaani |

Lord Brahma

(Perplexed at repeatedly changing the fate of people, Lord Brahma(the Hindu God of Creation and one of the Triad) went and complained to Goddess Parvati (eternal consort of Shiva).O Bhavani! Your husband (Shiva) is insane. He is forever magnanimous. Lord Shiva nobly grants even to those who have never given donations to anyone and earned the right to receive in exchange, which violates the Vedas' conventional norms.||1||

You are very wise. Just have a look at the welfare of your house (which is gradually becoming empty by Lord Shiva's consistent generosity to those dwelling in spiritual darkness.)Seeing the infinite wealth bestowed by Lord Shiva, even Goddess Laxmi (wife of Vishnu and goddess of good fortune and wealth) and Goddess Saraswati (wife of Brahma, goddess of learning and the arts) are (teasingly) singing your glories.||2||

I am totally harassed due to the madness of Lord Shiva, your husband; having to consistenely furnish a heavenly life for those spiritual paupers, on whose forehead I had not written a trace of joy.||3||

Suffering and sorrows of the grieved are distressed since they can not find any place to reside and supplication is bewildered in any case. Kindly hand over the charge of writing people's destiny to someone else. I consider that it is better to beg for alms and sustain myself rather than manage this authoritative task. ||4||

Hearing the voice of Lord Brahma loaded with love, praise, humility and joviality, Mahadev (title of Shiva) was delighted at heart and Jagjjannani Parvati (mother of the world) began smiling.||5||

Vinay Patrika: Shiv Stuti [3]

Raag Bilaaval

Lord Shiva

ko jaanchiye sambhu taji aana |

diinadayaalu bhagata-aarati hara, saba prakaara samaratha bhagavaana ||1||

kaalakuuta-jura jarata suraasura, nija pana laagi kiye visha paana |

daaruna danuja, jagata-dukhadaayaka, maareu tripura eka hii baana ||2||

jo gati agama mahaamuni durlabha, kahata santa, shruti, sakala puraana |

so gati marana-kaala apane pura, deta sadaasiva sabahin samaana ||3||

sevata sulabha, udaara kalapataru, paarabatii-pati parama sujaana |

dehu kaama-ripu raama-charana-rati, tulasidaasa kahan kripaanidhaana ||4||

Who shall we entreat apart from Lord Shiva? You are the one who is compassionate to the poor, the one who gets rid of His bhaktas' suffering and a competent God in every possible way.(1)

During the churning of the ocean when the gods and demons were about to be burnt by kalakuta, ( vomited by the serpent king Vasuki, under strain as the churn), the toxic poison, You instantly drank it to safeguard your vow of showering mercy on the needy. When Tripurasura, the fearsome demon began to inflict painful sorrow on the world, you quickly killed him with just an arrow.(2)

O Sadashiva, the highest condition(: merging of the soul with the Ultimate Being) which saints-mahatmas, Vedas and all the Puranas claim is difficult to attain by even great sages! You grant precisely the same supreme state, equally to everyone who dies in Kashi.(3)

O husband of Parvati! O Supreme Being! You are easily attainable when one serves You. You are the magnanimous One who grants a person's wish like the kalpavriksha (one of the fabulous trees of Krishna's paradise that grants all desires). You are the enemy of Kamdev (name of the god of love). O Kripanidhan! (reservoir of grace) Grant love for Shri Ram's feet to Tulsidas ji, for this very reason.(4)
