Lord Hari Relishes the Love Dwelling in Shiva's Heart

O lotus-eyed Lord, who relieves our sorrows just by looking at us with a merciful look! Look at me O Hari! You are dark-hued as the blue lotus, and a black bee relishing the nectar (prem rasa) of the lotus heart of Lord Shiva (the foe of Cupid). You shatter the might of demoniac forces, bestow delight on saints and sages, and are the destroyer of sins. You are like freshly gathered clouds for the thirsty crop of Brahmanas. You are the sole refuge of the helpless and take those in your shelter who are needy. By the might of Your arm You have vanquished the great burden of earth, by deftly killing demons Khara, Dusana and Virådha.

Lord Rama, the Moon of King Dasaratha's Lineage

Hail to the all-blissful Slayer of Råvana, supreme amongst kings, and a moon to the lotus-like lineage of King Dasaratha. Your lovely glory is evident in the Puranas, Vedas and Tantras; congregations of gods, sages and saints sing of its majesty. You are merciful and squash false pride, You are skilled (proficient) in every possible way, and a Jewel of the city of Ayodhyå. Your very name churns the sins of Kaliyuga and destroys affection. O Lord of Tulsidas! Kindly help the person who seeks Your refuge.

Lord Shiva Narrating Rama's Tale to Girija

(Lord Shiva continued) Listen, Girija! I have narrated this holy tale in full as per My own good sense. The stories of Lord Råma are hundred crores or beyond bounds and dimensions. Not even the Vedas and Sarada (the goddess of speech) can give their account. Lord Rama is eternal; His virtues are infinite; His birth, exploits and name are endless too. It may be possible to count the drops of water (when it rains) or the grains of sand; but the deeds of Lord Raghunath ( Lord of the Raghus) cannot be narrated in totality. This sacred story enables one to reach the supreme position of union with the Divine and by listening to this story unceasing religious devotion is attained.

Kak Bhusundi Recites the Exploits of Lord Rama to Garuda

O Uma! (says Lord Shiva,) I have told you in full, the beautiful story which Kak Bhusundi recited to Garuda. I have recounted a few of Lord Råma's virtuous traits. O Bhavani! Let me know what am I to tell you next. Goddess Parvati was delighted to hear the auspicious story of Lord Rama. She replied in an extremely tender and soft voice: O Tripurari! (Slayer of demon Tripura) I am truly fortunate to have heard the gunas (account of Rama's life) which get rid of the fear of birth and death.

O Abode of mercy! By your grace, I have accomplished the purpose my life, now. I have have no delusion ( esp as to the supposed reality of the world) left. O Lord! I have come to know of the greatness of Lord Råma, who is the personification of knowledge and bliss. O Nath! (Husband) The moon of your mouth showers the nectar of Lord Raghuvir's tale. O resolute Lord! My soul is not satiated after drinking the tale through the cups of my ears.

All Religious Observances Lead to Lord Rama

Japa (incantations), austere penance, religious observances, yogic practices, the performance of one's duties as per the class and stage of life, various pious acts recommended by the Vedas like spiritual enlightenment, compassion, self-control (restraining the senses), bathing in sacred waters and whatever other religious obligation have been recommended by the Vedas and holy men (following them) And O Lord! The supreme fruition of recitation and hearing of various Tantric texts, Vedas and Puranas is the same. And the topmost glorious reward of all spiritual endeavours is to forever have loving devotion for Your lotus feet. Can dirt be cleansed by washing with dirt? Can anyone get butter by churning water?

Bhakti of Lord Rama, Washes Away our Impurities

O Raghunath ji! (In the same fashion) Except by cleaning with the water of lovingly tender bhakti or religious devotion, the impurity accumulated in our heart can never be washed away. He alone is omniscient, knows the real nature of things and is learned. He alone is the repository of virtues and possesses indestructible knowledgeable; He alone is clever and endowed with all auspicious attributes, who is lovingly devoted to Your lotus feet.

Horses Distributed to the Deserving

So saying, the sage Vasistha returned home. The Ocean of mercy, Lord Rama was very pleased with him in His heart. Thereafter, Lord Råma who imparts delight to His servants, took Hanumåna, Bharata and His other two brothers (Laksmana and Shatrughna) with Him. And then the merciful Lord Rama went outside the city and ordered elephants, chariots and horses to be brought. Seeing them, being kind to them, He praised them all and distributed them, giving each person what he deserved and wished for. The Lord, who is the reliever of all worldly fatigue, Himself felt tired (while distributing the elephants, horses and so on) and retired to a cool mango grove (to relieve his exhaustion).

Lord Rama & Sita, Served by Bharata, Laksmana, Shatrughana & Hanumana

That is where Bharata spread out his own scarf and the Lord sat on it with His brothers attending to His needs. Lord Hanumana, the son of the Wind God began to fan Him now. His body was ecstatic and tears of joy filled His eyes.

Lord Shiva Narrates the Tale of Rama to Girija

(Says Shiva) O Girija! (mountain-born, title of Parvati) Neither is there anyone as fortunate as Hanumana nor so lovingly devoted to Lord Råma's lotus feet. Whose love and service, have been repeatedly raved about by the Lord with His own mouth.

At that very moment came Nårada with the lute in his hand. He began to sing of Lord Råma's glory which is forever beautiful and eternally fresh.
