Lord Shiva's Heavenly Voice
O repository of mercy ! Now do that which will  bring about his supreme salvation. On hearing the Brahmana's words, steeped in the well-being of someone else, the heavenly voice again replied: So be it ! Although he has committed a grave sin and I have also cursed him in anger, even then seeing your piety, I shall do a special favour to him. O holy Brahmana!

Lord Rama, the Slayer of Demon Khara, is Very Dear to Shiva
Those who are forgiving and benevolent are as dear to Me as Lord Rama (the Slayer of demon Khara). Nonetheless, My curse shall not go in vain. The Sudra is surely going to have a thousand births. But the terrible agony one has to bear in each successive birth and death, shall not affect him the least and his awareness (of previous births)shall not leave him. ( the voice continued :)

The Miraculous Power of Ayodhya, the Capital City of Lord Rama
Hear, O Sudra! Hear my authentic word. You will be born in the capital of Lord Raghuvir(in the first place, and thereafter you will set your heart in serving me. Due to the miraculous power of the holy city and My grace, religious devotion to Lord Rama shall invade your heart. O brother! Now listen to My truthful declaration. Attending to the needs of Brahmanas is the surest observance of propitiating Lord Hari. Never insult a Brahmana now onwards. Consider saints to be at par with the infinite Lord Himself.

Those who Respect Brahmans are Close to Lord Vishnu
Even he who does not die with  the stroke of Indra's thunderbolt, My own mighty trident, the rod of Death and the fearsome discus of Lord Hari, is consumed by the fire of hostility towards Brahmanas. Keep this discernment in mind, and then there will be nothing  which may be too difficult for you to attain in this world. I have one more blessing for you that you shall always have unrestricted access everywhere (meaning you will be able to go anywhere you want without any obstruction.)

Lord Shiva's Feet Reside in the Guru's heart
The Guru rejoiced to hear Lord Shiva's words (as conveyed through the ethereal voice) and saying, May this surely happen! And after correcting me, he returned home with the image of Lord Shiva's feet lodged in his heart.

The Sudra is Born as a Serpent
As fate would have it, I went to the Vindhya mountains and was reborn as a serpent. Thereafter after some time had elapsed, I easily gave up that form. O Mount of Lord Hari! Whatever form I assumed, I dropped with utmost ease just as a man casts off worn-out clothes and wears new ones. Lord Shiva protected the  norms of Vedic law, while I was spared the agony (of the cycle of births and deaths). In this manner, O Pakshiraja! I assumed many forms; but my understanding (of the identity of the self with the ultimate brahmin) never left me.

Born as a Brahman, Kakbhushundi Enacts the Child Play of Lord Rama
Whatever form I assumed, whether of an irrational being, god or man, I continued to worship Lord Råma in that form. (I was happy in this way) yet one thing constantly stung my conscience. I could never forget my Guru's lovingly tender nature(which means that it always hurt me that I had insulted such a tender-hearted guru.)The last body I got was that of a  Brahmana, which is difficult for even gods to acquire, say the Vedas and Puranas. Even in that incarnation whenever I joined young boys for play, I would enact all the lilas or pastimes of Lord Raghunath.

Kamdhenu, the Cow of Plenty
When I grew up my father began to teach me. I tried to understand, listen and reflect on the lessons yet they failed to attract me. All worldly desires left me and I was just absorbed in the thought of Lord Rama's feet.  O Garuda! Tell me who would be so wretched to give up Kamdhenu (the cow of plenty)and  serve a she-ass? Absorbed in love, nothing attracted me. My father was tired of teaching me. When my father and mother died, I went to the forest to worship Lord Rama, the Protector of His servants.

Garuda, the Mount of Lord Vishnu
In the forest I went and bowed to the sages wherever I found hermitages. O Garuda! I would ask them about the tale of Lord Rama's virtues. They would narrate them and I listened with delight. In this way I went about forever listening to the account of Lord Har'ís praises. By the grace of Lord Shiva my movements were unrestricted (which means I could go wherever I wanted.) The three types of strongh desrires (for sons, wealth and fame) left me and one sole longing immensely grew in my heart. When I have darshan of Lord Rama's feet I should consider the objective of my birth accomplished. Whoever I would ask, that sage would say that God represents the Nirguna Brahman  totality of created beings.

Nirguna Brahman
But this doctrine which considers God  Nirguna Brahman (the supreme reality without form, quality and attributes) did not find favour with me. The love I nestled in my heart for the embodied Brahman, grew more and more.

Born as a Brahman, Kakbhushundi Sings the Glories of Lord Rama
As I recalled the words of my guru, my mind got absorbed in the feet of Lord Rama. I went about singing the glories of  Lord Raghuvir with a love which strengthened every moment.

Sage Lomasha Sat Under a Banyan Tree
On a peak of Mount Meru sat sage Lomasha, under the shade of a banyan tree. Seeing him, I bowed my head at his feet and spoke extremely humble worlds. O Garuda! On hearing my softly tender words, the compassionate sage asked politely.  O Brahmana! For what purpose have you come? Then I replied, O fountain of mercy! You are omniscient and intelligently wise . O blessed one! Tell me the method of worshipping the saguna Brahman or the embodied Supreme Spirit.
